The Hunger Games: May the odds be ever in your favour.
If you've seen The Hunger Games movie then you'll be right up with what it all means. I myself have never seen it because I don't do the whole people being hunted by other people thing very well. This cake was really fun but challenging to make though the end result was so much better than I expected.. I made the mockingjay over two days using a tutorial from this site finishing the mockingjay off with ediable gold spray. The gold colour in the top photo was how it actually looked, but the photos below don't show just how rich the gold colour actually was. Then the rest was pretty quick. The quote on it "may the odds be ever in your favor!" for those of us who don't know is just good luck.
This cake was for a 14th birthday. Keehly sketched the cake out exactly how she wanted it and I stayed pretty close to it. I didn't put flames all around the cake because it would have over shadowed the quote. I can tell you she loved it when the box was opened. So a big happy 14th Keehly!!!
My Little Pony
These cupcakes received the 'stamp of approval' from my two resident critics, so I knew they'd be a hit for little miss four and her kindy class today. I did try a new vanilla cupcake recipe, so I was a little apprehensive. My Luce doesn't particularly like overly sweet things, so when she came back for a second cupcake I was a little more confident. Add fluffy buttercream and a My Little Pony Cutie Mark and it looked we might have a hit. I'm so looking forward to creating a cake for little miss 4's birthday next week. Today I had my offsider supervising the making of some My Little Pony accents for cake. Its so lovely having my little grandbaby (whoops, she's almost 4 and not a baby and is happy to remind anyone that would say otherwise) sitting with me planning her cake as we make this one for another big four year old.
Game On
This was a cake order that my kids were eagerly waiting on. The very lovely Veronika had ordered a 'Call of Duty' themed cake for her son's 17th birthday, and I hope it didn't disappoint. Having not had any experience with the game itself, I had to do a bit of homework on this one.
The cake was a double layered cake completely covered in fondant. Mr. Call of Duty skeleton man was also made with fondant as was the features on the sides. I did use real bullets around the base of the cake. My husband did go as far as contacting the governing body to ensure that it was legal to use them as accents next to the cake.
This was a really fun cake to do. Happy 17th!

Is There A Doctor In The House.
This was fun cake to make. A lovely lady contacted me to make a cake for a young doctor at the Mater A&E. The young lady was from England and away from her family on her birthday. Veronika order the cake to help make the day special for her.
The cake was 10"x10" double decker Signature Chocolate cake with buttercream.
Taking It For The Team
Happy 21st Ty.
I loved doing this cake for Ty's 21st. His mum Melanie & I met on the first day of year 1 which seemed like yesterday but was actually 43 years ago. She choose a Lakers jersey as they had a family trip to the USA and actually watched the LA Lakers play inbetween a fantastic adventure around Las Vegas.
The cake was my Signature Chocolate Cake with Buttercream covered with fondant. The cake was placed on an 18"x14" cake board for size.
Birthday in a Box
Birthday in a Box is designed for an inclusive treat for children's kindy, school or birthday celebration. So you also don't feel left out, this box is great for your work place treat as well. Each box comes with a minimum of 30 mini cupcakes and a candle. Each cupcake is topped off with a small fondant topper which is themed to whatever takes your little or not so little person's fancy. It all comes together beautifully presented in sturdy cupcake box. The word on the ground from a special little man who's Birthday in a Box is pictured below is that these were a huge hit. Something that even the teachers are still talking about.
*Each box is labeled with a list of ingredients which is an all important feature for most settings today.
These box's start from $40.00 for the 30 Mini Cupcake in a Box.

Happy 2nd Birthday Ava & Connor
'Farm Yard' was the theme for the twins 2nd birthday party and its all about cake. Well at least for the twins. When they hear the name Grandma, Ava immediately say's "Grandma cake". Once she arrives at our home and she's done her 'I'm so shy' routine for about 5 seconds, its straight to my side, takes my hand and leads me to the kitchen in search of cake. I do digress but they are pretty darn cute.
Back to the party now. As always Cait excels herself in the party throwing. This year was no exception. The day came complete with their very own John Deere cardboard tractor, piggy bean bag toss, hay bale horsy, and everyone dressed up for their day on the 'farm'.
Can you believe that the rocks on Connor's cake are chocolate!

Thanks to Maddie (12) once again for helping out with the cake. She made the animals for her nieces cake. |
I just can't believe they're 2 already. The great thing about this week is that I get to make a cake and matching cupcakes like Connor's all over again for a very special little boy who's turning 5!
My Little Pony Party
My Little Pony is the perfect birthday theme for this precious little one. Now I did need to call upon the fount of all 'My Little Pony Knowledge' to ensure that I was reasonably accurate with the 'cutie marks'. Cutie Marks you may ask? Yes, my Lucy can tell you each pony has their special marking and this is as essential as knowing that any good pirate wears an eye patch. The fondant toppers below are different cutie marks. Applejack, Twilight Sparkle..... That would be Fluttershy sitting up there on top of the cake.
Happy 7th Birthday
Happy Birthday to a Harry Potter Fan.
Maddie very most BFF is a Harry Potter fan. Not just any HP fan, but a diehard. With that being the case there was only one cake that would do and as she is in Hufflepuff that too narrowed down the field. When the cake was cut, it had brown and yellow layers. The girls went to the school fancy dress dance as Bellatrix Lestrange & Deatheater. They did come home with first prize and Miss Bellatrix loved her cake.
Happy Dr SUESS Day!
